Rollover Crash On 60 Freeway Kills Driver

JURUPA VALLEY, CA — A driver was killed Thursday when his vehicle overturned on the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley and rolled down a steep embankment, ejecting him.

The crash occurred about 5:40 p.m. just east of Interstate 15, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car was traveling at an unconfirmed speed when it went out of control, plowed into a guardrail and flipped just after passing Wineville Road, the CHP reported.

The vehicle rolled at least once, throwing the driver, whose name was not immediately released, into a gully as it plunged down the roughly 50-foot embankment.

Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the location within 15 minutes and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

No one else was in the vehicle.

CHP officers shut down the westbound 60 slow lane leading to the 60/15 interchange while a preliminary investigation was conducted and a tow vehicle with an extended wench line was summoned to recover the vehicle.

A SigAlert was issued due to the traffic disruption.
