The off-duty 49-year-old was taken into custody after being barricaded inside a Riverside County home for roughly 20 hours.

FRENCH VALLEY, CA – An off-duty Riverside County sheriff's deputy was arrested today following a nearly 24-hour standoff at his French Valley home, where deputies were initially sent to investigate a report of domestic violence.

Alcide Galley, 49, was taken into custody about 7 a.m. in the 35100 block of Nightingale Street, near Slater Avenue. It was not immediately clear whether Galley was booked into county jail, transported to a mental health facility for a psychiatric evaluation, or taken to a hospital for treatment.

According to the sheriff's department, deputies were called to the two-story residence shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday to investigate an alleged act of domestic abuse. The alleged victim was not identified.

When deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect, he allegedly refused to come out and barricaded himself in the house.

When initial negotiations for his surrender failed, a SWAT unit comprised of Hemet and Murrieta police officers was summoned to the lawman's home to assist, a sheriff's department spokesman said.
