School Police Officer Arrested In Beaumont For Alleged Battery

BEAUMONT, CA — An off-duty San Bernardino school district police officer was arrested for allegedly attacking someone in Beaumont, after requesting police assist him in tracking down a stolen cell phone, the Beaumont Police Department reported this week.

Alejandro Brown, 31, was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of battery with serious injury, brandishing a firearm and assault under the color of authority.

Police say that at 7:29 p.m. Wednesday, Brown, an employee with San Bernardino City Unified School District Police, requested assistance in retrieving a stolen cell phone. Brown allegedly had tracked the phone to a home in the 1200 block of Massachusetts Avenue.

As officers were responding to the call, Beaumont police dispatch was phoned by a male caller who said his friend had been assaulted by an off-duty police officer.

Officers found Brown and the victim together and determined that Brown had assaulted the victim, who was taken to a hospital, according to Beaumont police. The nature of the alleged assault was not disclosed.

Brown was booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning. Jail records show that he was released from custody Thursday on $25,000 bail.
