Sinkhole Opens Up In Banning Amid Rainy Weather
A street is closed in Banning Wednesday afternoon after a sinkhole opened up, causing damage to the road.
BANNING, CA — A sinkhole opened up along Wilson Street in Banning Monday, as a rainstorm continues to pelt the Southland. Wilson Street is closed between Highland Springs Avenue and Apex Street as crews respond to the sinkhole, and residents of Linda Vista Mobile Home Park are being asked to use an alternate entrance.
Photos shared by the City of Banning show visible damage to the roadway, with more erosion visible in a muddy construction area beside the road. Banning police were at the scene, and no timetable was given for when the street will be reopened.
Rain was expected to continue falling in Banning and Beaumont into the afternoon, with heaviest rainfall expected around 4 p.m. A flood advisory was expanded to include the area, according to the National Weather Service.
