Sun Lakes Extension Project In Banning Closer To Next Phase: Officials

BANNING, CA — Work crews have cleared out "80 percent" of the area where construction will begin on the City's $33.5 million Sun Lakes Extension project, the city announced on Thursday.

Work in the creek areas is currently on hold due to active bird nests in the project area. Clearing can resume with construction after the birds have abandoned the nests, the city said on it's Facebook page.

Construction of the Sun Lakes Boulevard Extension project got underway May 26, including city leaders, stakeholders and partners who made the project possible.

The city has said the project would "close a gap in the city's circulation system by connecting the current end point of Sun Lakes Boulevard at Highland Home Road and extend the roadway 1 mile easterly to connect at the intersection of Sunset Avenue and Westward Avenue."

Funding for the infrastructure improvement project includes $13.5 million the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) and $20 million from the Western Riverside Council of Governments (WRCOG), officials said.
