Urban, Small Stream Flood Advisory Issued Near Pass Area

The advisory remains in effect through 7:15 p.m. Monday.

SAN GORGONIO PASS AREA, CA — Due to heavy rain in some higher-elevation communities, late Monday afternoon the National Weather Service issued an "Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory" for parts of the Inland Empire, including some Pass Area cities and unincorporated areas.

The advisory remains in effect through 7:15 p.m. Monday for areas that could experience flooding including Redlands, Yucaipa, Forest Falls, Mountain Home Village, Angelus Oaks, Highway 38 between Yucaipa and Onyx Summit, Seven Oaks, Calimesa, Barton Flats Campground and Cherry Valley; communities near the El Dorado Fire burn scar are also impacted, according to the NWS.

At 4:13 p.m., Doppler radar showed heavy rain in the area, according to the NWS.

"This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Between 0.5 and 0.75 inches of rain have fallen," the agency said.

More rain is expected through the evening, but it's not forecast to cause widespread flooding.

"Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 to 0.5 inches are expected over the area," the NWS said. "This additional rain will result in minor flooding."

The weather agency is advising motorists to turn around if they see a flooded road.

"Most flood deaths occur in vehicles," the NWS said.

The rains have already triggered minor rockslides, mudslides and debris flows in steep terrain areas, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Sunny conditions are expected to return to the region Tuesday.
