Vacancy On Banning City Council: Applications Being Accepted

The candidate selected by city council to fill the open seat will hold the spot until District 2 voters get a chance to weigh in on Nov. 3.

BANNING, CA — With an empty seat on the Banning City Council following the resignation Monday of Councilmember Don Peterson, the city is inviting registered voters who live in District 2 to apply for the vacancy. The application deadline is Friday, February 14, 2020 at 4:30 p.m.

The candidate selected by city council to fill the open seat will hold the spot until District 2 voters get a chance to weigh in during the Nov. 3, 2020 general election.

In a Jan. 2. letter to Mayor Art Welch and the Citizens of Banning, Peterson said he was resigning his seat after serving seven years on the council.

For those interested in learning more about the application process, an informational workshop will be held Thursday, January 30, at 5 p.m., in the City Council Chamber (Banning Civic Center, 99 E. Ramsey Street). Applications are available at the Civic Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or on the city’s website at www.banningca.gov.
