Woman Who Sued Jenni Rivera's Estate Following Injury at Morongo Concert Reaches Settlement

CABAZON, CA - A woman who was injured after a Jenni Rivera concert at the Morongo Casino in Riverside County in 2009 settled a lawsuit she filed initially against the singer, but which was later amended to name the late entertainer's estate after her death.

Lawyer David Ebenhack, on behalf of plaintiff Mayra Pineda-Garcia, filed court papers on Sept. 15 with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michelle Williams Court stating that the case was resolved along with related cross- complaints.

No terms were divulged and Ebenhack could not be immediately reached.

Pineda-Garcia alleged she suffered a broken leg from being pushed by security guard Jesse Contreras after the Oct. 30, 2009, show at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon.

Pineda-Garcia filed her suit in October 2011 and asked for more than $16,700, alleging

she was in a line to meet Rivera after the concert when Contreras pushed her, causing her to fall over wires and break one of her legs. Pineda said she paid extra to have her photo taken with the singer.

Pineda-Garcia's attorneys amended their client's case to name Rivera's estate after the Long Beach-born banda singer's Dec. 9, 2012, death at age 43 in a Learjet crash after a concert in Monterrey, Mexico.

In June 2012, a cross-complaint filed on Rivera's behalf stated that her former manager, Gabriel Vazquez, promoted the Cabazon concert and hired the security staff to protect her. The singer asked that she be reimbursed in part by Vazquez for any judgment against her. Her estate later replaced her at a party in that action.

In February 2014, Vazquez a cross-complaint against the Rivera estate and Contreras, asking to be compensated by the estate and Contreras if found responsible for injuries to Pineda-Garcia.
