Yucaipa Woman Found Strangled, Unconscious In Motel Room: Cops
Police said a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

YUCAIPA, CA — A 35-year-old Yucaipa woman is recovering after she was strangled to the point of unconsciousness in a Redlands motel room, police say. The woman, who was not publicly identified, was allegedly attacked by a man she'd just met two days prior.
Daniel Clarence Knowles, 61, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder on Friday — hours after he had first called 911 to report "that he had found the 35-year-old Yucaipa woman unconscious and unresponsive" at the Motel 6 in the 1100 block of W. Colton Avenue, Redlands police said in a news release.
The woman was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital for additional care.

"About 30 minutes later, paramedics contacted police and reported that the victim had suffered bruising consistent with strangulation," Police Spokesman Carl Baker said. "The woman later regained consciousness and told police she had been assaulted by Knowles, whom she had met two days earlier."
Baker said that police then returned to the motel where they arrested Knowles. He was taken to the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, records show. Bail was set at $1 million.
