Auditions are Sat. for 'A Christmas Carol'

Annual holiday musical, presented by NDNU, is a gift to the community.

Community actors are invited to audition for a part in “A Christmas Carol ,” this Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. at Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) Theatre, located at 1500 Ralston Ave. in Belmont. Appointments are not necessary.

Now in its 26th year, NDNU’s production is the longest running musical version of “A Christmas Carol” in the Bay Area.

Parts for everything from singers and dancers to Tiny Tim will be cast in this annual “gift” to the community. The musical rendition of the Dickens’ classic welcomes actors, singers and dancers as young as eight years old to audition. Parents are requested to accompany children under 18. Performances are free to the community.

Mary Hill, administrative and production coordinator for NDNU Department of Theatre and Dance is organizer of the auditions.

“For me Christmas Carol is a year around project, and it is always exciting to start a new production season with new and long standing cast members,” said Hill.

According to Hill, performers wishing to audition should prepare and memorize an upbeat song memorized in their key, and supply a copy of the sheet music for accompanist.  No recorded accompaniments are allowed. 

All performers are required to sing, dance and read from the script.  They should bring along personal work/ school calendars and schedules to confirm rehearsal and performance availability. 

Rehearsals will begin October 14 and will be scheduled throughout until performances begin December 9.  The 2011 Christmas Carol cast list will be posted after October 14 at www.christmascarolthegift.org.

Performances dates for “A Christmas Carol, the Musical,” are December 9-18. All performances are free to the community.
