Belmont 4-H Cleans Up Just Fine!
Belmont 4-H joins VOICES, Scouts, Notre Dame Argos and more in cleaning up trash!

City Hall was packed with families, teens and more, all getting equipped and dispatched to clean up our community. I was there with Belmont 4-H for the first of a year of community service opportunities for Club Members. Scouts, Argos and VOICES teams were gathering in force, visible via their matching uniforms or t-shirts.
City staff had everything set and ready to go - the buckets and extension hand grippers were EXTREMELY and immediately popular among our crew! Our Volunteers reviewed the posters about what to pick up, and what to leave in place, grabbed gloves, buckets and bags and headed off to our assigned spot - the Slough by the Belmont Sports Complex.
Food wrappers, paper and plastic trash and cigarette butts were the main items in supply at the Sports Complex, most windblown into the shrubbery along the pristine fields. Although we were asked to count our trash by item type, I stopped counting cigarette butts after about 100. Our team’s buckets were about 1/3 full after 20 minutes, and we felt good about the final count - 2 full buckets of recyclables, 5 full buckets of trash plus 4 full plastic bags of trash plus two completely awesome baseballs which were immediately put into good use.

Tomorrow, we go pick excess apples in the Cipriani neighborhood which we’ll donate to 2nd Harvest.
