Belmont Man Suspected Of Trying to Rob Woman in Local Parking Lot
According to police, the victim said she was sitting in her parked vehicle when the suspect approached her window and demanded property.

FOSTER CITY, CA — A man suspected of attempting to rob a woman at gunpoint in Foster City in January was arrested Friday, according to police.
On Friday, San Mateo County sheriff's deputies located 21-year-old Jason Mateo of Belmont, and turned him over to Foster City police detectives.
On Jan. 29, Foster City police officers had responded to a report of an armed robbery in the parking lot of the Edgewater Place Shopping Center located at 901-999 Edgewater Blvd.

According to police, the victim said she was sitting in her parked vehicle when the suspect approached her window and demanded property from her.
According to police, when the victim did not comply, the suspect pointed a handgun at her and demanded her property again. When the victim screamed, the suspect ran away, entered a vehicle driven by another suspect,
and then they drove away from the scene.

Witnesses in the parking lot who heard the victim scream provided police with a description of the suspect and the vehicle.
An investigation led detectives to identify Mateo and a 17-year-old male juvenile as the suspects. Police later located their vehicle, which was found with the firearm used in the robbery.
The juvenile was arrested last Wednesday and taken to the Youth Services Center and booked on suspicion of attempted robbery and conspiracy.
Mateo was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of attempted robbery, conspiracy, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, police said.
