Belmont Resident ID'd In Deadly Crash

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA -- A Peninsula resident died in a solo-vehicle collision early Sunday on Highway 4 in Martinez, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office and the California Highway. Jiwon Kim, 41 years old, of Belmont, was driving a white 2011 Toyota Camry on Highway 4 just east of Alhambra Avenue around 4 a.m. when his car appeared to have veered off the north side of the roadway and directly into a tree, authorities said.

The San Mateo County man, who was initially identified by the CHP as a Richmond resident, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

CHP said no other cars were involved in the collision. Neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to have played a part in the crash, but the incident is still under investigation, CHP said.
