Critical Injuries Reported In Peninsula Crash

Sheriff's officials say a 55-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition.

SAN CARLOS, CA — A 55-year-old man who was attempting to walk his bike across a San Carlos crosswalk was hit by a car and suffered serious injuries on Monday, the San Mateo County sheriff's office reported.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. in the area of Industrial Road and East San Carlos Avenue, according to sheriff's Det. Rosemerry Blankswade. A 23-year-old in a Mercedes Benz slammed into the man who was running across the street with his bicycle.

"Medics arrived on scene and rendered aid to the pedestrian," Blankswade said in a news release. "Ultimately, the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition."

Sheriff's officials are investigating the wreck.

"We want to encourage everyone to remain alert and focused while driving and while using the
crosswalks," officials said. "If anyone witnessed this collision or has information regarding this incident, we ask that you call Sergeant Pettit at 650-802-4226."
