Deputy Honored For Act Of Heroism In Belmont Incident

The sheriff's deputy potentially helped save the life of a woman in Belmont, according to transit officials.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — County officials are honoring a local sheriff's deputy who went "above and beyond the call of duty" this year and helped save a woman whose husband allegedly threatened and held her above the train tracks — in front of her 4-year-old son — in Belmont.

It happened on May 31 at the Belmont Caltrain Station, according to officials with the San Mateo County Transit District.

Deputy Pedro Miqueo responded to to the subsequent domestic violence call, came to the woman's aid and arrested the man; all the while treating "the woman and child with care and compassion," transit officials said.

Miqueo connected the woman and her child with counselors at Community Overcoming Relationship Abuse, or CORA. Miqueo also drove her to her child's school when she was unable to do so and stayed in touch with her to provide further support, according to the transit distric.

CORA will honor Miqueo with an award at a meeting of the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board on Thursday.
