DUI Nanny Who Crashed Thru Belmont School Gate Learns Fate: DA

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A woman who worked as a nanny will serve 10 months in jail after she was sentenced last week on charges of drunk driving and child endangerment, San Mateo County prosecutors said.

Evgeniya Martynova, 64, of San Mateo, was driving to Cipriani Elementary School in Belmont at about 3:05 p.m. on June 12, 2017, with a 7-month-old child in the car when she drove over a curb and hit an 11-year-old child who was standing on a sidewalk, according to police. She pleaded no contest to charges in December.

Martynova was on her way to the school to pick up two other children, officials said. Martynova was trying to park when she drove over the curb.

Prosecutors said then Martynova's car hit a school fence and went down an embankment.

Martynova told police that she hadn't been drinking, but an officer noticed Martynova smelled of alcohol and determined she was intoxicated. A blood test showed Martynova's blood alcohol level was .10 at the time, according to prosecutors.

The 11-year-old child suffered bruises but no broken bones in the crash.

Martynova must surrender on March 10 to start her sentence. When she is released she is barred from any employment involving the care or custody of children, according to prosecutors.

Martynova was convicted of DUI in 2015.

Her attorney Nafiz Ahmed could not immediately be reached for comment.
