Environmental Education For Our Elementary Schools

I am a Girl Scout Ambassador currently working to achieve my Gold Award by starting an environmental club at a local elementary school.

Keeping our environment clean is an important issue that should be emphasized in our elementary schools. As a Girl Scout Gold Award candidate, I have decided to address this issue with our community and come up with ways to solve it. I am currently leading an Environmental Club at Serendipity School each week to help children learn how to keep their environment a clean and safe place to live and play. During each club meeting, I am teaching the students the importance of saving our environment through discussion and art projects. In addition, Serendipity School has embraced the three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle) and has school wide designated clean up days on the playground and at Cipriani park adjacent to the school. The students in the club have seen the benefits of a cleaner environment, and they collectively say they want to keep it that way. I feel that all it takes is one positive role model to get the ball rolling. I am sharing a bit of my project in hopes of inspiring others in our community to take action as well.
