Getting Ready For the County Fair!

In addition to preparing for our Open House on May 13th at Fox School (7pm), 4-H families are all busy on-line, making sure that things that they've made, written, or intend to bake are all registered for Fair. The deadline is 5pm tonight!  So don't forget to get yours in too! 

And - we are also gearing up with our favorite math challenge for our community - are you ready to guess the weight of Willie, the Pen Pride steer?

Every year, a different 4-H Club raises a steer - which is a really expensive and amazing learning experience, by the way, from feeding to grooming to making sure this huge animal is comfortable being cared for, around humans, etc.    Did I say they eat a lot?  Well they do - which is why Willie gained 435 pounds in about 5 months.  And he's still growing... but how much he'll be on June 15th is anyone's guess - including yours.   So how will you do it?  Pick a number out of the air? Use that math equation y= mx+b? Decide that like humans, they can't grow that fast for that long and throw in a fudge factor?  The fun of some family time spent thinking about it, and the prizes for good guesses are really worth the $2 for one guess, $5 for 3 guesses or $10 for 7 guesses....

So come by and see Willie at the Youth Barn - he's really gentle, and cute!
