Man Shot Dead In Belmont

BREAKING: Police say the shooting happened early Saturday morning.

BELMONT, CA — One man is dead and another is sought by police following a deadly shooting in Belmont early Saturday, the Belmont Police Department reports. The man, whose identity has not yet been confirmed, was found around 5:15 a.m. in front of a local apartment building.

Belmont Police Capt. Patrick Halleran says police received a "shots fired" call at 566 Ralston Avenue, near El Camino Real, and arrived at the scene just minutes later to find a group of people standing outside the building. Along with Belmont PD, San Mateo police and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office also responded.

"The victim, an adult male, was found inside one of the apartments with a gunshot wound," Halleran said in a news release. "The victim was treated at the scene by Belmont Fire Department paramedics, but was pronounced deceased at the scene."

As of Saturday afternoon, police from Belmont and the San Mateo County Sheriff's Forensic Lab were still processing the scene, Halleran said.

"Investigators from the Belmont Police and San Mateo County District Attorney's Office are interviewing witnesses," he added. "The suspect, an unidentified male is currently outstanding."

Police did not immediately have any suspect or suspect vehicle information available.

"Preliminary indications are that this is an isolated incident," Halleran said.
