New Details Released In Belmont Murder

(Breaking) The suspected gunman made his first court appearance this week.

BELMONT, CA — A 27-year-old man made his initial appearance in court Wednesday on charges that he fatally shot another man inside an apartment in Belmont early Saturday morning. Meanwhile, San Mateo County prosecutors have released some more information in the case.

Jovhon Stewart is charged with the murder of DeJohn Jones, 24, of Union City, who was fatally shot around 5:15 a.m. Saturday at an apartment in the 500 block of Ralston Avenue, according to Belmont police.

According to the district attorney's office, the ex-girlfriend of Jones lives at the one-bedroom apartment where the shooting occurred. Jones had gone to the residence with his sister and cousin to pick up a television and other personal items, as he and the woman – Jolie Harris – had only just recently broken up.

Prosecutors did not say what prompted the shooting but said three people in the home, including Stewart's girlfriend, identified him as the shooter.

Jones was unarmed when he was shot four times – two times in the back, one time on top of the head and another time in the arm, according to prosecutors.

Stewart did not enter a plea and was ordered to return to court on Aug. 16. He remains in custody on no-bail status.
