📰 News we're reading
• Carolyn Cupil died after multi-vehicle crash near University Avenue (newsline.com) — A Belmont woman, 63-year-old Carolyn Cupil, died after the minivan she was riding in struck six vehicles near Bay Road and University Avenue in East Palo Alto on September 29. Authorities say both she and the Menlo Park driver were killed, and legal experts note her family may have options to seek help with medical, funeral, and related costs.
• What California's new e-bike laws mean for you and your neighbors (calmatters.org) — New California e-bike laws could soon affect Belmont families, as San Mateo County is authorized to pilot a ban on children under 12 riding certain lower-speed e-bikes, with $25 fines for parents. Belmont council member Robin Pang-Maganaris supports stricter rules for young riders, while safety advocates argue the focus should be on better street design rather than policing kids on e-bikes.
