Last Thursday’s heavy rains brought significant damage to the homes of seven Nesbit families living in the Belmont Mobile Home Park off of Harbor Blvd. The rains flooded the mobile park causing water levels to reach as high as 2-3 feet feet (see attached pictures). By Thursday afternoon, the Mobile Home Park evacuated all families. Since then, these Nesbit families have been living in a Red Cross Shelter set up in College of San Mateo’s gymnasium. Families with significant health issues have been moved to Days Inn in Redwood City. Unfortunately, the families are unsure of when they will be allowed to return to their homes as there is currently no water or electricity. Some homes are likely to be condemned.

With the holidays fast upon us, I am wondering if there are those of you who might want to extend financial support to these Nesbit families? What we are envisioning is the office collecting cash donations through this week Thursday. On Thursday, we’ll turn the cash into gift cards at Target and Safeway so that families will be able to refill their refrigerators once they return to their homes and re-purchase items that have been damaged. On Friday, we’ll give these families the cards. I am quite certain that these gift cards will bring them joy during this time that I am sure is quite stressful for them.

If you are willing and able to help, please stop by the office or send your donation in an envelope marked “Help for Nesbit Families” with your child. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
