Water Conservation and Beautification Girl Scout Silver Award Project

Girl Scout Community Service Project

On August 13, 2015, eight Girl Scouts (Kayleigh Bhatt, Megan Bhatt, Amelia Espinosa, Kaylee George, Alyssa Higdon Kylie Lin, Emma O’Connor, and Madison Palarca-Wong) from troops 30385 and 30888, with help from Sean and Mike of the Belmont Parks and Recreation staff, gathered to complete the water conservation and beautification project at the entrance of Twin Pines Park. This project consisted of digging 18 holes, installing the drip irrigation, and covering the dirt with wood chips to plant 18 drought tolerant plants. They chose 16 shrubs/bushes and 2 trees that replaced plants that required lots of water and weren’t performing well. This was inspired by Kayleigh Bhatt’s and Alyssa Higdon’s passion to bring water conservation awareness to the community that will leave a long lasting impact.
