Woman ID'd In Deadly Hwy 92 Pileup Near Belmont

Breaking: CHP officials say the crash is DUI-related.

A woman who died in a fatal collision Saturday night on state Highway 92 in unincorporated San Mateo County near Belmont was identified Tuesday by the county coroner as 70-year-old Los Gatos resident Saida Magomedova.

The collision was reported at 8:44 p.m. on eastbound Highway 92 just west of Interstate Highway 280. Los Gatos resident Arsen Tarkovskiy, 34, whose vehicle was involved in the collision, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter.

Tarkovskiy was driving a Mercedes-Benz that Magomedova was in during the collision, which involved three other vehicles. According to the CHP, Tarkovskiy was driving a 2009 two-door Mercedes west on Highway 92 while a 2003 Honda CR-V, 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix and 2003 Volvo SUV were traveling east on Highway 92.

Tarkovskiy allegedly veered over the double yellow lines into eastbound traffic where the Mercedes collided with the left sides of the Honda and Pontiac and head-on with the Volvo.

After the collisions, Tarkovskiy was pinned in the driver's seat and first responders had to extricate him from the Mercedes.

Tarkovskiy suffered major injuries and was taken to Stanford Hospital, CHP officials said. Magomedova was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Volvo was taken to Stanford Hospital with minor injuries while the occupants of the Honda and the Pontiac did not report any injuries.
