Dreaming of the Long Beach Jolly Ball Machine

I visited the Swiss Jolly Ball Machine at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry over 10 years ago. Then I went back last Christmas to see it again. So much fun.

I was at the Long Beach Adult Fans of LEGO meeting and Jason and Dawn showed up.

Pretty exciting to meet a Mechanical Engineer.  I dabble in and take lots of videos of mechanical things.

I want to someday make a Jolly Ball Machine.

So Jason the Mechanical Engineer, his wife Dawn the artist and I, the Jolly Ball Dreamer were there at the Adult Fans of LEGO meeting.  We made Zombies and Robots and talked about making a Long Beach Jolly Ball Machine.

What's a Long Beach Jolly Ball Machine, you might ask.  Well, we'd have to put in all the scenes from Long Beach, and the Jolly ball would travel from one to the other... The Queen Mary, the Library, Pine Ave and Second Street, the Ebell Theatre, the Oil Islands, the Long Beach Airport, Rosie's Dog Beach, Bixby Village.  The Passport, the Spruce Goose Dome, the various festivals and more.

We could do it in metal then in LEGO, or in LEGO then in metal.

And then we could do an historic one, in sepia.  We could create different versions of these and sprinkle them around the city.

How fun it is to dream of a Long Beach Jolly Ball Machine. Or two, or three.
