It's Crafty: Negative Thinking

I have a reason to put myself in a negative thinking place. It's really hard!

For some of us, thinking in negative space comes easy.  For me, it's turning out to be very hard.

You see, I've got me a Silhouette Cameo 2-D cutter.  It's an awesome tool that lets you create a 2-D image (using a certain technique and various editing tools).  Then you send it to the cutter, and it cuts it out on card stock or paper.  Use a special blade and you can cut fabric, too!

I haven't yet purchased a 3-D printer, so I'm making do with what I have... the 2D cutter.  Friend Caprice is a graphic artist and is having lots of experiences with the cutter.  I am having a few experiences myself.  We're making stencils.

When you create your cut design, you have to think in negative space.  The cutter will take away some parts and leave behind others.  Your ink will go into the spaces once occupied by the  parts that are taken away.  Because we are making stencils, we need to connect the remaining parts that will be left behind so there are no floating bits.

It's an art.

I've included some photos and a video or so for you to watch.

It's hard!
