Long Beach Police Department Honors Its Standouts
43rd Annual Police Awards Ceremony at Carpenter Performing Arts Center recognize dozens of officers and community members.
The Carpenter Performing Arts Center played host to the 43rd Annual Police Awards Gala on Wednesday evening. A full house from the second largest police force in L.A. County attended the awards event, as did Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster. (Patch will post a complete list of awardees later today). Outside the ceremony protesters from Long Beach Campaign to Stop Police Violence held a peaceful rally with angry signs demanding justice for those who have been killed by Long Beach officers, including the Belmont Shore shooting death of Doug Zerby Dec. 12, 2010. Protesters were marching and shouting slogans that fell mostly upon deaf ears.
