3 Die, 1 Injured In 'Suspicious' House Fire

Vallejo police and fire are investigating the weekend blaze that took the lives of one woman and two girls.

VALLEJO, CA – One woman and two girls were killed, and another child injured, early Sunday in a residential fire being called "suspicious" in Vallejo, officials said.

An officer smelled smoke and was flagged down by a girl, 11, at 2:45 a.m. on the 2900 block of Georgia Street where a home was on fire and the child said there were three more people inside, the Vallejo Police Department said.

Officers were not able to enter the house as it was fully ablaze, but arriving Vallejo firefighters were able to get inside to rescue the three females. On victim died at the scene, another passed away at a hospital and the adult succumbed to her injuries at a local burn unit, police said.

The Vallejo Fire Department contained the fire, and the 11-year-old who initially flagged down the officer is expected to make a full recovery from her injuries, police said.

"This fire is suspicious in nature," police said adding that police detectives and fire investigators are jointly probing the cause and origin of the fire.

The victims' names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.

"Fatal fires such as this one weigh heavy on out hearts and minds," Vallejo fire officials said.
