The much anticipated Prius Hybrids with the plug-in option made their U.S. landfall in Benicia. The cars were part of a shipment delivered to the Amports facility by the Pyxis Leader, a Panamanian flagged vehicle carrier.
Plugincars.com reported the first Prius plu-ins arrived last weekend but officials at Amports said the first cars actually arrived in mid February.
"It was February 15 when they started arriving," said Guillermo Sanchez, Post Porductoin Options Supervisor at Amports. "We hold the vehicles here until we have two or three vehicles per dealer in a region and then we ship them out."
The adds various optional items to the cars. "It could be something as simple as wheel locks," said Sanchez. "Any option toyota offers we can do here."
The Pyxis Leader cleard the Panama Canal on February 28 and is headed to ports on the eastern seaboard.
