Arrest Made In Benicia Man's Killing, Fairfield Police Say

Fairfield police identified the victim Thursday as a 28-year-old Benicia man and said thanks to an alert citizen, a suspect is behind bars.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA — Fairfield police made an arrest Thursday in connection with the alleged homicide Wednesday of a Benicia man. Derek Dunlap, a 26-year-old resident of Fairfield, was taken into custody Thursday morning thanks to an alert citizen who spotted Dunlap walking near Broadway and Taylor streets, said Fairfield police Spokesman Greg Hurlbut.

Alexander Lind, 28, of Benicia, was found dead at about 6 a.m. Wednesday in a parking lot in the 1200 block of Empire Street, near Pennsylvania Avenue. Police investigators believe Lind was slain at the hands of someone he knew, and Wednesday afternoon released a photo of a person of interest in the case.

At about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, an "observant local citizen" called authorities to report seeing a man who resembled the person in the photo.

"Officers soon arrived and located the person, still wearing the clothing as seen in the photograph released yesterday," Hurlbut said in a news release.

Dunlap was handcuffed without incident and detained at the scene until detectives arrived.

Police have not disclosed the manner in which Lind died.
