Benicia Man Identified As Pedestrian Struck, Killed By Car

The fatal collision happened as the local man was trying to cross a street, Benicia police said.

BENICIA, CA — Authorities identified a Benicia man as a pedestrian who was fatally struck by a car Wednesday night as he tried to cross a local street. Benicia resident Raymond Salas, 70, was hit at about 6 p.m. Wednesday on Military West at West 5th Street, Benicia police said in a statement posted to social media.

Emergency personnel took Salas to an area hospital shortly after the collision but he later died of his injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old man, is fully cooperating with the investigation, police said.

"At this time, the driver does not appear to be at fault in the collision," police said. "Benicia Police Department's chaplains are working with the driver’s and victim’s families during this difficult time."
