BMS Viking Band Captures Some Disney Magic!
BMS Viking Band traveled to Disneyland to compete and march down Main Street, USA.
Benicia Middle School Viking Band members went on an amazing
adventure to Disneyland filled with competition, clinics, marching and fun! The 89 members of the BMS music program, led by Music Director Glenn Walp, marched down Main Street, USA at Disneyland to open the Disney evening parade event. Disneyland guests lined the street and watched our musicians travel the parade route from Fantasyland all the way to the main gate entrance. The crowd
cheered as they performed their numbers which included some Disney classics.
The BMS Jazz Band entertained CA Adventure guests at the Hollywood Backlot Stage with amazing jazz tunes. Their style and confidence proved spectacular against the busy scene at the park.
The Jazz Band and Color Guard teams were also able to participate in clinics set through Disney which led them through various routines and songs guided by Disney professionals. The Symphonic Band got to record music from
Disney classic movies at their sound track session, directed by noted Disney
movie music directors.

If that wasn’t enough, they found time to participate in the Forum Festivals’ Director’s Invitational. This is a competition for groups that consistently perform at the highest level. Just being invited to attend is an honor but the BMS Jazz and Symphonic bands played their finest and took first out of two in the jazz
competition and another first out of eight participants in the concert competition. The award ceremony, held at the Hyperion Theater in CA Adventure, was quite a spectacular event. Mickey and Minnie Mouse were on hand to congratulate all the winners!
The weekend was filled with wonderful performances, exciting adventures and hard earned kudos for all the band members and director. The Viking Band’s next event will be in Alameda at the Encinal Band Review on Saturday, May 4th.
