Fire Burns 117 Acres, All Homes Saved: Fairfield FD

The McGary Fire south of Cordelia Junction threatened 12 homes, according to Fairfield Fire Department.

FAIRFIELD, CA — Firefighters battled a brush fire Friday in Fairfield that grew to 117 acres and threatened at least 12 homes but due to a quick response, no buildings were lost, the city's fire department said.

The McGary wildfire broke out around 5 p.m. in the area of McGary Road and Red Top Road, west of Interstate Highway 680 and east of Interstate Highway 80 in Solano County — sending smoke billowing into the air.

Two Cal Fire air tankers and a helicopter responded to the blaze but crews on the ground appeared to be making quick work of knocking it down.

Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said it assisted on the blaze, which broke out in the 5000 block of Red Top Road.

At 6:15 p.m., the Fairfield Fire Department said on Twitter the forward progress of the fire was stopped and no structures were damaged.

"This fire burned 117 acres 12 houses were threatened," Fairfield FD said in a follow-up tweet at 7 p.m. "But thanks to a quick response no buildings were lost."

Another wildfire Friday in the North Bay, the Lakeville Fire south of Petaluma, was 125 acres and 50-percent contained as of 7 p.m., Cal Fire reported.
