Lakeville Fire Erupts In Sonoma County
Smoke from the wildfire near Petaluma was filling the air in the North Bay.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A wildland fire that broke out Friday afternoon southeast of Petaluma ballooned to 141 acres by 9 p.m. but was 90-percent contained. The blaze, dubbed the Lakeville Fire, erupted in the 4500 block of Lakeville Highway / state Highway 116, near Stage Gulch Road, in Sonoma County, according to Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit.
At 4 p.m. the Lakeville Fire was 20 acres in size and zero-percent contained; within one hour, the blaze was 60 acres but crews increased the containment to 50 percent, Cal Fire LNU reported.
Just before 6 p.m., the blaze was 50-percent contained and 125 acres in size.

"Forward progress has been stopped," Cal Fire LNU said in a tweet at 5:54 p.m.
Cal Fire has not said whether evacuations were necessary.

Patch readers in both Napa and Sonoma counties reported seeing and smelling smoke Friday afternoon from the fire.
"A lot of smoke is blowing into southern Napa County and Napa City," the Napa Police Department said in a Nixle alert sent at 4:40 p.m. Friday. "Please do not call 911 for information. Only call 911 to report if you see fire."
Likewise, the Napa County Office of Emergency Services at 4:47 p.m. said the Lakeville Fire in Sonoma County posed no threat to Napa County.
A second fire erupted Friday afternoon in the North Bay but in Solano County, according to preliminary reports from the California Highway Patrol. At 5 p.m., a field at McGary Road and Red Top Road in Fairfield — just south of the Cordelia Junction of state Highway 12 and Interstate Highways 80 and 680 — was reportedly on fire and homes were threatened.
