Artist/Photographer Christine Benkert brings her passion to life...still life...in her solo exhibit "BONES...to be still". Using the most silent subjects of a single bone and some rocks, she masterfully and deliberately creates huge prints, described as calm, pensive, and galactical. The subject matter becomes secondary to the magnitude of the arena. "I would like the viewer to experience the meditative process that I experience when creating images, to go into it, meander around, and find some peace" Benkert studied at the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse and Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography with a secondary concentration in Art History. While there she studied with Arnold Gassan, Dan Williams, and A. J. Meek. She taught photography at Metropolitan State University in Minneapolis, Minnesota and for over two decades had a distinguished commercial career, earning the prestigious Women In Design International award and a Communication Arts Photography Annual award. In her own studio, Benkert specialized in advertising and editorial photography. In 2000 she moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico to re-invent herself as a serious Exhibiting Artist in the Digital Age of Photography. By 2010 Christine had established a household in Danville, California while still maintaining a presence in Santa Fe. Benkert devotes her time to the creation of her art. She has recently exhibited at the Pence Gallery, Davis, CA; New Concept Gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, NM; Richmond Art Center in Richmond, CA; FVAA in Fairfield, CA; and Arts Benicia. She is a member of Arts Benicia and Gallery 621 in Benicia, CA.
