Stewart was found lying on the ground in front of the residence, and an initial investigation revealed he was assembling explosive fireworks in his garage for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, police said.
Police said they found a large amount of undetonated devices and explosive material in the garage.
Nearby residents who were evacuated from their homes overnight received housing assistance from the American Red Cross, police said.
