Fairfield Shooting Victim Dies In Hospital

Third suspect sought.

A 23-year-old Fairfield man who was shot last week was taken off life support at a hospital and died Monday, Fairfield police said today.

Police identified the victim as Phillip Liberto. Liberto was shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Phoenix Drive around 4 p.m. July 22. He was placed in a vehicle, which police located, and was eventually transported to a trauma center, where he died Monday.

Two Fairfield men were arrested for the shooting, Leonel Garcia Flores, 21, and Jaime Ponce Hernandez, 22, police said. Another suspect, Jamison Nodine, is wanted on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, police said.

Police said Hernandez and Flores are suspected gang members and the slaying appears gang-related.
