Friends Rally For Solano Co. Mom, Premature Baby After Car Crash

The 31-year-old was 7 months pregnant at time of accident in Vallejo. Her baby boy was delivered by C-section at John Muir in Walnut Creek.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA – Friends of a woman who gave birth to a boy soon after being seriously injured in a vehicle collision last Wednesday in Vallejo are raising money for the family on the crowdfunding website GoFundMe.

Vallejo resident and mother of three Amber Grimi, 31, suffered head injuries, a broken leg in two places between the hip and knee and also broke a wrist in the collision between her Ford F-150 pickup truck and a 1996 Ford Explorer, her friend Lynn Hebert said.

Grimi was nearly seven months pregnant and her son was delivered by Cesarean section at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, Hebert said.

The boy, named Jameson, lost blood in the collision and is expected to be in the hospital for 10 weeks, while Grimi will be there about two weeks, Hebert said.

Police said the crash occurred in the area of Mare Island Way and Kentucky Street around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Ford Explorer driven by a 52-year-old Vallejo man crossed the center median on Mare Island Way near Kentucky Street, rolled over and landed on top of Grimi's Ford pickup.

"There was no real gross negligence, but the Ford Explorer driver appears to be at fault," Nichelini said Monday.

Police are trying to determine if speed or inattention were factors in the crash, Nichelini said.

Hebert said Grimi's Ford pickup was totaled in the collision and the family will need a new car.

"She had just dropped her husband off at work," Hebert said.

Donations may be made on the GoFundMe site at Help Amber and Jameson, Hebert said. To date, $4,145 has been raised toward the $55,000 goal.
