Man Arrested In Double Shooting Inside Benicia Sports Bar

Leads to the 33-year-old Vallejo suspect's identity came from the public, police said. The two victims are in stable condition. (Breaking)

SOLANO COUNTY, CA – Benicia police have arrested a Vallejo transient on suspicion of shooting two men in a sports bar early Sunday morning, a police spokeswoman said.

Daniel Lopez, 33, was arrested with the assistance of Vallejo police during a high-risk traffic stop in Vallejo around 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Benicia police spokeswoman Irma Widjojo said.

Lopez is suspected of shooting a 45-year-old Benicia man and a 45-year-old man from Texas around 1:30 a.m. Sunday inside the Bottom of the Fifth bar at 498 Military East.

The shooting victims are best friends and neither of them know Lopez. One of the men has been released from the hospital and the other is still under observation and in stable condition, Widjojo said.

Lopez got in an argument that did not involve the victims in the bar, and fled after the shooting, Widjojo said.

Detectives learned the gunman's identity and got a $750,000 arrest warrant around 7:50 p.m. Sunday.

"The detectives were able to follow leads that came from our community after we gave out the information" in the news and through social media, the agency said.

He was located in a parked car and then started driving before officers pulled him over and arrested him.

Lopez was booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a firearm and three counts of brandishing a firearm.

"We are proud of our hardworking detectives, who worked around the clock on this case, and we would like to thank the community for the support and cooperation," the department said. "We are only stronger together!"
