CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – An unarmed man who was shot and wounded by a security guard at a movie theater in Concord on Sunday evening was allegedly intoxicated and making threats prior to the shooting, according to police.
The shooting was reported at 6:48 p.m. at the Brenden Concord 14 movie theater on Willow Pass Road.
The suspect, 25-year-old Anthony Countee of Richmond, allegedly walked into the theater without buying a ticket and headed into the lower-level snack bar area, police spokesman Lt. Nicholas Gartner said.

When a security guard with Custom Protective Services asked to see the man's ticket, he became confrontational and told the security guard he had a gun and would shoot him, police said today.
The security guard pointed his gun at the man, to protect himself, and told him to lay on the floor so he could be placed under arrest, police said.

The man then ran out of the theater with the security guard chasing him. The guard shot Countee multiple times when he allegedly reached for his waistband, police said.
"Concord officers arrived at the shooting within seconds and provided first aid to the injured man," police said. "He was not found to be armed and no gun was recovered."
Countee, who was not armed, was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive. He was arrested on suspicion of making felony threats.
The security guard, who was cooperative, was questioned and released by investigators, according to police.
The theater was locked down and surrounding streets were closed during the investigation in order to allow officers to make sure there weren't other suspects in or around the theater, police said.
The case will be reviewed by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office.
