Second Night Of I-780 Closure Canceled
BREAKING: Following Tuesday's overnight closure, Caltrans says Wednesday's closure is not necessary.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA -- A closure planned for tonight through early Thursday morning on Interstate Highway 780 in Vallejo has been canceled, as crews were able to complete a construction project ahead of schedule.
Caltrans officials had planned to close Highway 780 between 10 p.m. tonight and 5 a.m. Thursday in order for crews to complete the installation of columns for the rebuilding of the Laurel Street Bridge, Caltrans officials said.
Crews, however, completed the installation of the two giant bridge columns, located in the median of the highway, Tuesday night during a planned closure that lasted until 5 a.m. this morning.

The old Laurel Street Bridge was demolished in June and is being rebuilt above both directions of Highway 780 in Vallejo.
The columns will support the new bridge deck and bring the bridge up to current seismic safety standards, according to Caltrans.
