Student Fabricated 'Man With Knife' That Led To Vacaville School Lockdown

While Jepson Middle School was under lockdown today for what turned out to be a fabricated story, a relative of a student was found and detained for carrying a semi-automatic gun onto the school’s campus, according to Vacaville police.

The school conducted a lockdown after a student reported being threatened by a knife at 12:30 p.m. this afternoon. During the lockdown, police encountered a man in the hallway in possession of a semi-automatic handgun who was identified as Mark Gonzales, 62, of Vacaville.

Gonzales was found to be a relative of a student at the school who had gotten an alert that the school was on lockdown and had arrived at school to retrieve his student, according to Lt. Matt Lydon.

Gonzales was taken into custody by Vacaville police and transported to Solano County Jail.

“We take campus lockdowns on school campuses very seriously,” said Vacaville police. “We ask that parents and relatives of students stay away and allow us to do our jobs so that we can ensure our children’s safety.”

While detectives were questioning the student who reported the knife incident, they noticed he told several different stories about what had happened and questioned him until the student admitted he had fabricated the entire story. The student’s motives are unknown at this time.
