Witnesses Sought In I-80 Gunfire Involving Motorist Shot In Neck While Driving With Child

BREAKING: The 26-year-old victim from Vacaville was driving east late Friday afternoon near American Canyon Road when struck by bullet.

SOLANO COUNTY, CA – Solano County sheriff's deputies are looking for witnesses to the shooting of a driver on Interstate Highway 80 near Vallejo on Friday afternoon.

A 26-year-old Vacaville man was shot once in the neck on eastbound Highway 80 at American Canyon Road around 4:40 p.m. He was taken to a hospital and released later in the evening, sheriff's Deputy Christine Castillo said.

The victim's 5-year-old son who was in the car was not injured, Castillo said.

The victim's white 4-door Mercedes-Benz crashed into shrubs on the side of the highway. The shooting suspect may have been driving a dark-colored SUV but there is no other description of the vehicle, according
to Castillo.

The shooting and subsequent investigation caused traffic back-ups along I-80 during rush hour. A Sig-alert was issued at 5:06 p.m. Lanes reopened around 8:45 p.m. after the scene was cleared.
