Oakley Woman Who Died In Antioch Collision Is Identified

A 49-year-old woman who died Monday evening after another car crashed into her vehicle on state Highway 4 in Antioch is identified.

ANTIOCH - A 49-year-old woman who died Monday evening after another car crashed into the back of her vehicle on state Highway 4 in Antioch has been identified as Rita Ahwal of Oakley, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office.

The crash was first reported at 5:46 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Highway 4 just west of Somersville Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A BMW crashed into the back of an Acura being driven by Ahwal.

The force of the impact pushed Ahwal's car into the right shoulder, CHP officials said.

Ahwal was initially unconscious and unresponsive. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short while later, according to the CHP.

The driver of the BMW was also taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash and no arrests have been made, CHP officials said.
