240 Bikes Assembled for Needy Kids

Morgan Stanley Wealth Management (MSWM) employees from throughout the Bay Area gathered at Livermore Cyclery in Dublin Wednesday to assemble bicycles for the company’s 10th annual “Bikes for Tots” event.

“The Bikes for Tots program is a wonderful way for Morgan Stanley Wealth Management to give back to the community,” MSWM Tri-Valley Complex Manager Renee Arst said. “Hopefully the bikes we built today will bring joy to some children in need this holiday season.”

During the festivities, MSWM employees constructed more than 240 bicycles for low-income children. They were joined by employees of SAP, another sponsor of the event. The bicycles will be donated between December 15 and December 23 to different charitable organizations near Bay Area MSWM offices. The names of the charitable organizations will be released soon.

“There are so many children who are missing out on the simple things in life,” said Bikes for Tots Co-Founder, Shawn S. Oliver, of Morgan Stanley’s Napa office. “These bicycles will not only give these children a much needed surprise this holiday season, they will also give them many days of fun and recreation. We at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management are proud to be a part of this grassroots effort providing new specialized bikes to children underserved this holiday season.”

Morgan Stanley Wealth Management financial advisors Shawn Oliver and Brian Lewis founded the Bikes for Tots program in 2004. The two competitive cyclists, who also founded the Morgan Stanley Cycling Team, created the event to share their love of cycling with low-income children.

Since its inception, the Bikes for Tots program have facilitated the construction of over 2,000 bicycles. Funds to buy the bikes are raised at a bike ride, lobster dinner and auction event in October.
