6 Alarm Fire Levels Building Under Construction; Spreads to Townhomes

The fire broke out overnight. The Red Cross is helping displaced residents.

EMERYVILLE, CA - A six-alarm fire that destroyed a building under construction in Emeryville along the city's border with Oakland has been contained this morning, Alameda County fire officials said.

The blaze was reported at about 2:45 a.m. in the 3800 block of San Pablo Avenue and spread to adjacent townhouses and condominiums, fire officials said.

Fire crews used a drone from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office to provide command staff with an aerial view of the fire and what hot spots needed to be put out, fire officials said.

Alameda County fire officials said on Twitter at 7:50 a.m. that the blaze had been contained.

Residents displaced by the fire are being helped by the American Red Cross at the Emeryville Senior Center.

East Bay Municipal Utility District officials increased water pressure at the scene to help firefighters with the defensive attack of the fire, according to fire officials.

The fire also caused a power outage affecting just over 100 customers. PG&E has now restored electricity.

No injuries have been reported in the blaze.
