SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A convicted child molester who staged his suicide and then spent months on the run after skipping out on sentencing in San Francisco has been located, authorities said.

Carl Cacconie, 51, was found and arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona, after eluding law enforcement for 10 months, the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office said.

Carl Cacconie was convicted in July 2025 of six counts of committing lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14, according to the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office.

Despite objections from prosecutors, according to the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office, a judge, after the verdict, allowed Cacconie to be let out on a $1 million bond while he awaited sentencing on Aug. 25.

But Caccione never appeared. His ankle monitor last placed him at an address in San Francisco's Sunset District before losing connection on Aug. 17.

Caccione's family reported him missing a few days later on Aug. 22. They told the court he'd disappeared, leaving behind his phone, wallet and a suicide note, deputies said.

"Carl Cacconie underestimated law enforcement and our commitment to ensuring justice for those impacted by his crimes," FBI Sacramento Acting Special Agent in Charge Brian Tosh said in a statement Saturday. "Our task force officer with the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office relentlessly pursued leads and worked closely with FBI Sacramento, FBI San Francisco, and FBI Phoenix field offices to ensure every possible tool, technique, and resource, was leveraged to locate and safely apprehend this convicted criminal."

It's unclear how many years Caccione faces at his sentencing.
