1. Berkeley Shakespeare Company To Present WILLIE SINGS THE BLUES! A Gala Fundraiser (broadwayworld.com) — A Berkeley-rooted Shakespeare company is hosting a one-night gala, "WILLIE SINGS THE BLUES!", in San Francisco this October to raise funds for its inclusive, actor-driven productions. The troupe, founded to empower underrepresented artists, blends Shakespeare scenes with music and cabaret-style performances while centering justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in its Bay Area work.
   

2. Phil Tippett Auctions Off Decades of Hollywood Magic as Berkeley Studio Closes (culture.org) — Phil Tippett has closed his longtime visual-effects studio on Grayson Street in Berkeley and auctioned off decades of Hollywood props and equipment after a Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Collectors lined up to buy Star Wars and Jurassic Park models as the 6,200‑square‑foot warehouse was cleared, though Tippett is keeping his Oscars and plans to continue working from outside Berkeley.
   

3. Volleyball loses in four sets to UC San Diego (gozags.com) — Gonzaga volleyball wrapped its opening weekend in Berkeley on Sunday with a four-set loss to UC San Diego, despite a standout 16-kill performance from Veronia Sorensen. Freshman Dani Clewis also impressed by leading the match in digs and assists as the Zags showed depth but couldn't overcome the Tritons' serving and blocking.
   

4. Sal Veder, Pulitzer Prize-winning AP photographer who shot iconic 'Burst of Joy,' dies at age 99 (texarkanagazette.com) — Pulitzer Prize–winning photographer Sal Veder, born in Berkeley in 1926, has died at 99 after a storied Associated Press career. His iconic "Burst of Joy" image of a Vietnam POW's family reunion became a symbol of the war's end and capped decades of influential photojournalism in California.
