Applications Being Accepted for Berkeley Housing Authority Commissioner

Those interested should apply before Sept. 8, 2014.

Mayor Tom Bates seeks to appoint a Berkeley resident to the Berkeley Housing Authority Board of Commissioners. Appointments are finalized upon confirmation by the City Council.

The Berkeley Housing Authority Board of Commissioners is the independent body responsible for carrying out the Housing Assistance Voucher (Section 8) and Public Housing Programs for low-income Berkeley residents. Commissioners determine BHA staffing and budget and provide oversight to ensure BHA programs are operated in accordance with federal guidelines.

Required qualifications:

· Attend Board meetings one or two evenings a month

· Serve a minimum of one calendar year.

· Demonstrated interest in providing housing to low-income residents

· Commit to a significant amount of time reviewing and researching Board material

· Solid written and communication skills

· Ability to work in a diverse environment

· Resident of Berkeley
