Berkeley Auto Burglary Solved By Good Samaritan's Photo

Police said they located a credit card embosser, credit card encoder, laptop, blank credit cards and personal information.

BERKELEY, CA — A Richmond man was arrested last week on suspicion of identity theft after an auto burglary in Berkeley earlier this month, police said.

Police said the burglary happened at 11:50 a.m. on May 18 in the 2500 block of Ridge Road and a nearby witness took photos and gave them to Berkeley police detectives.

The investigation led police to arrest Jamal Rudledge, 22, at about 7 a.m. on May 23 after they served a warrant in the 600 block of South 49th Street in Richmond.

Police said they located a credit card embosser, credit card encoder, laptop, blank credit cards and personal information for at least one victim of identity theft.

Rudledge was arrested and booked in Berkeley City Jail Friday on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools, commission of a felony while released on bail or recognizance and the unauthorized use of personal identifying information of another person.
